Andover Astronomical
Society
The
Andover Astronomical Society was founded in 1995 by local amateur astronomers and is a member of
the Federation of Astronomical
Societies.
We are a small society that caters for anyone with an interest in
astronomy. We have members of all ages with a range of experience levels
from complete beginners to experienced observers.
The society has regular meetings that run from September to April each
year. We have a varied program to try and cater for everyone and have
something for all levels of experience. Children
are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
The skies are nice and dark where we meet, so after each meeting, if the
weather permits, we do some observing. Experienced members of the society can offer advice on astronomical
equipment, how to use it, and offer observing tips. Beginners are
encouraged to learn from the more experienced members in the society.
Most are more than
happy to help other people. If
you would like some practical help or
would just like to team up with other amateur astronomers to do some
observing, you only have to ask.
As well as information about the society, this site contains general
information about astronomy, observing and the equipment used for
amateur astronomy. Do take the time to look around. Those interested should contact
the
chairman Terry at:-

The society's physical meetings
are held monthly at
Grateley Village Hall. This is located on the
road between Grateley village and Grateley railway station.
From the A303, take the road through Monxton, follow it into
Grateley village, past the Plough public house then carry on
out of the village towards Grateley station. The village hall is
on your right just after leaving the village.
The postcode of
the village hall is SP11 8LA.

The society has
meetings on the third Thursday of each month from September
through to April. We do not currently meet in the summer months.
All meetings start at 7:30pm.
Meetings try to combine talks on a
variety of topics (usually by
an external speaker) with some observing
afterwards. If cloudy we have informal talks from members and
discussion in the second half of the meeting.

our meetings.
