Outreach

Outreach

Do you want to find out more about the solar system, stars, galaxies and the universe? We actively engage with the groups in the local area to promote interest, awareness and understanding of all things astronomical. Our outreach activities include:
  • introductory talks about astronomy, cosmology and the solar system
  • outdoor sessions looking at and learning about the night sky
Our members have a wealth of experience in teaching, research and public education. We work with groups such as schools, youth and voluntary organisations and other local organisations and groups. If you’d like find out more about our outreach activities you can get in touch using the contact page.

Recent activities

We work with Andover Scout and Cub groups, most recently 23rd Andover to help the cubs and scouts earn the Astronomy Activity Badge. In the first two sessions they learnt about the solar system, stars and constellations and how to make a telescope. In the third session the group looked at the night sky using members’ telescopes and binoculars. By the end of the sessions all the cubs and scouts were able to find the pole star, identify constellations and talk about planets, asteroids and the solar system and had earned their badge.
