Thanks Viv and Richard South for, once again, hosting our summer Star-B-Q.
A wonderful evening with some clear sky for observing. A few intermittent Perseids were seen and several members brought along telescopes and binoculars.
Live stacking of the Dumbbell Nebula by the Seestar S50, and a demonstration of night vision optics were astronomical highlights.
On the culinary front, the barbecue was delicious and, as ever, the company was excellent.
Blackett Observatory Visit, September 2024
15 Members of the Society visited Blackett Observatory (Marlborough College) on the 25 September on a mostly cloudy evening.
We were able to view Saturn, Gamma Delphini and Albireo, through the 10 inch Cooke refractor telescope (built in 1860). Unfortunately the clouds then rolled in.
We were then given a slide show of photographs taken through the scope. We also watched the Radio Meteor Detector on live stream and were shown (and handled) the Wetton meteorite collection.
The excellent evening ended with us all handling two new acquisitions, a slice of lunar breccia and a piece of Martian rock.
